In response to districts' needs, ASSET is implementing a Teacher Leader Development Program to equip teachers with some of the skills and expertise needed to conduct professional development training in their own districts.

Each Teacher Leader will develop his or her own "Individual Training Plan" comprised of two days each of training, facilitating general professional development sessions, and shadowing ASSET Resource Teachers. Teacher Leaders will then be available to share their selected area of expertise with other teachers in the district through mentoring, coaching and study groups.

The Teacher Leader Development Program is an important step in developing and supporting standards-based "accomplished teaching." Currently, 19 school districts have committed to train 39 teachers for this program.
