ASSET Inc. is an independent, nonprofit education reform initiative dedicated to continuously improve the abilities of teachers to increase student learning, with initial efforts in science and technology education. ASSET provides innovative teacher professional development on subject content and best teaching practices that support the use of standards-based curriculum materials. Established in 1994 by Bayer Corporation and other corporate and educational partners, ASSET has transformed itself from a National Science Foundation grant recipient with two pilot districts to a successful, operationally self-sustaining organization serving 44 school districts, charter and private schools. Each year, ASSET directly impacts more than 3,000 teachers and 63,000 students in classrooms across Western Pennsylvania . And its impact doesn't stop there- ASSET is a leader among a national network of education reform organizations in partnership with the National Science Resources Center (NSRC), an organization of the Smithsonian Institution and the National Academies . |
